Health and Safety Training for Tour Guides and Porters

Three 5-day trainings will be organized in 2 regions of Malawi: Mulanje and Mangochi.

Health and Safety training will cover Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), Risk management, and Risk control. At the end of the Health/ Safety training participants will be able to define a Hazard and Risk Assessment. They will also be able to identify Hazards associated with their work and more importantly they will learn Risk control measures. Some of the risks that are going to be discussed are:

Hazards caused by Environment: High altitude, Extreme temperatures, Natural disasters, Bad weather and lack of visibility, Wildlife, Poisonous plants, etc.

Hazards caused by Human factors: Lack of planning and preparations, Lack of training, Incorrect altitude/ mindset, Getting lost, Falling, Dehydration, Equipment failure, and Action by other mountain climbers.
